Alice R Ashton

The family and loved ones of Alice R. Ashton sadly announce her passing on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. A celebration of her life service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Salem Baptist Church at 1:00pm. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, beginning at 12:00 noon until the start of service.   

Alice Rebecca Ashton Gaskins was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia to Otha Howard and Rose Emma Gaskins who both preceded her in death. She departed this life on May 6, 2026, in Sandston, Virginia at the age of 88.

Alice was baptized at an early age at Salem Baptist Church in Montross, Virginia. She received her early education at Westmoreland County schools, Philadelphia, and later at A.T. Johnson High School. She worked in factories and later in restaurant service.

Alice loved her flower garden, reading, soap operas, and cooking. She was a good cook.  She loved her grandchildren who would spend their summers with her.

Alice was preceded in death by her brothers: George Gaskins, Otha David, Wilber and Samuel; sisters, Dorothy Burton and Lucille Gaskins; and two grandsons, Lando and Richard Ashton.

She leaves to cherish her memory four children: Richard Ashton (Darrel), Delilah (Bert), Sandra (Guy), and Frank; six grandchildren; fifteen great-children; her sister, Emily Yvonne Gaskins; and a host of nieces and nephews.
