Obituary

Alice Margaret Tolson was born on September 19, 1929, in Montross of Westmoreland County, Virginia. She was the youngest daughter of the late
Mr. Alexander Tolson and the late Mary E. Tolson.

As a teenager, Alice endured a childhood illness of Spinal Meningitis. However, that did not stop her from hanging out with her big brothers, or trying to boss everyone around as our aunts told us. Her father used to tell her mother to leave her alone.

Alice attended Westmoreland County school. She moved to Washington, DC and stayed with her sister Frances until she got a job. Alice worked for a member of the Kennedy family. They supported her and her children. Later, she became an aide to another family. She liked to go dancing on 7th Street NW with family and friends before she had children. She loved to travel and cruise on the Atlantic Ocean. Whenever you were with her, she made you smile.

Alice met Sister Owens in the 1950s and began to study the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her cousins Lillian Weeks Holden and Judy Weeks Rosewell started sitting in on the study and told the family in Virginia about what they were learning. Alice dedicated her life to Jehovah in 1958 in Washington, DC. She made it a point to make sure her children went to good schools and have Bible study lessons to learn the truth from Jehovah. Alice was loyal to the end and even shared the good news of Jehovah’s kingdom to her health aides until February, 2023 when her health declined rapidly. Her favorite scripture was Isaiah 41:10, “Do not be afraid, I am with you. Do not be anxious for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you. I will hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness.”

Alice will be remembered as the last of her generation. She was preceded in death by her son, Wayne on November 24, 2017, and all her siblings and some nieces and nephews which affected her health greatly.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Stephanie, her son Kirk (Elizabeth), Grandchildren, Alex Stephen and Robert (Jennifer) and Granny Taylor, grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and close friends. She will be missed by all her family and friends.
