Bernice Garner Obituary

Bernice Adel Garner, born November 14, 1946, to the late Martha and Pete Brown, entered eternal peace in the early morning of February 4, 2021. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, Norman Brown, Robert Brown, James Brown, and Pearl Cox.

At an early age, she attended Salem Baptist Church in Montross, VA where she was baptized. She attended Westmoreland County public schools.

Bernice was married for 52 years to her devoted husband, James Arthur Garner Sr. This union was blessed with four children: James Jr., Steven, Joseph, and Claudia.

Not only was Bernice a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, she was also a hard-working woman. She spent years working for Levi’s and Driftwood until she retired. Even after retirement, she continued doing what she loved...she loved sewing, cooking, and being around her family and friends. In her spare time, you would either see her in the garden, sitting on the porch watching hummingbirds, or spending time with her grandbabies. She stayed being an open ear to all and bless everyone with her love and beautiful smile.

Her greatest gift was being a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, James Arthur Garner Sr.; her three sons, James Garner Sr. (Carrie) of Kinsale, VA, Steven Garner of Kinsale, VA, and Joseph Garner (Mona) of Tappahannock, VA; daughter, Claudia Garner of Kinsale, VA; sister, Mary Brown of Hague, VA; brothers, Gary Brown of Hague, VA and Ronnie Brown of Hague, VA; in-laws, Joan Fulcher (William) of Sandy Point, VA, Thelma Wilson (late Clinton) of Hague, VA, Janice Turner (Ricky) of Hague, VA, Mary Smith and the late Beatrice Fauntleroy (David), Timothy Garner (Doreatha), Edward Garner (Vicky), Kelvin Garner Sr. (Theresa), and Avery Garner (Billy Jo); grandchildren, Iyraia, Iykeia, Latisha, Stephanie, Elijah, Steven Jr., Priscilla, Jordan, Joseph Jr., Tiffany, and Angel; her great-grandchildren;
and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
