Bobbie Hackett Obituary

Bobbie Nalls Hackett, most people called her “Barbara”, was the fourth child of Toby and Delior Nalls, born in Fayette, Alabama, on June 15, 1935.  After graduating from high school there in 1957, she  traveled to New York to do domestic work. Following a brief stay in New York, she moved to Virginia, and it was there that she met the love of her life, Mervin Hackett, and on December 2, 1989, they were married.

Bobbie continued to do domestic work in Virginia while also working at Faunce’s Seafood. When she got tired of domestic work and working at Faunce’s, she retired.  She then began babysitting and raised four boys: Bentley and Charles McKinney, John Burton and George Sandy.  Bobbie cared for them and loved them as they were her very own sons.

Bobbie’s strong faith led her to join New Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Albert Holmes.  She loved to sing and was a member of the senior choir. She also could be seen working in the kitchen and was most famous for her delicious pound cakes.

While Bobbie loved to cook and  had a huge porcelain doll collection, she received the most enjoyment while working outside in her many beautiful flower beds.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother.

Bobbie leaves to cherish her memories a loving husband, Mervin “Mopy” Hackett; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; one godchild, John Tate. She also leaves a special friend, Deaconess Juanita Cox; the three daughters she never had: Deacon Earlene Washington, Deacon Bertha Campbell and Deacon Helen Plummer.

Bobbie’s soft voice, warm smile and her love of family and friends will be cherished and missed by all who knew her. May she rest in the bosom of our Lord and Savior.

A special thank you to Ms. Doreen Henry, her caregiver.
