On Saturday, August 28, 2021, our beloved Calvin “CJ” Harris Jr. crossed his appointed finish line and unexpectedly departed this earthly life in Colonial Beach, VA. Making his grand entrance on March 5, 1995 to Jonelle Johnson-Byrd and Calvin Harris Sr., CJ was a spunky, big headed kid who loved to laugh and have fun. In the 26 years God shared him with us, not much changed. He remained spunky, full of laughter, quick with jokes, and thankfully grew into his head!
Calvin Harris Jr was baptized at an early age and joined Little Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Bishop William B. Scott. CJ received his education in Westmoreland County Public Schools and participated in football, basketball, and track & field. He graduated from Washington & Lee High School in June of 2013. After graduating, he joined the workforce and was employed as a truck driver for Lucky Dog Industries at the time of his passing.
When he was not working, CJ enjoyed hanging out with friends and attending cookouts. Some of his favorite foods were: Gregory’s fried chicken wing dings, Auntie’s rice pudding and sweet potato pie, and Poppy’s fried chicken wings and crab balls. He did not mind submitting his requests!
CJ had a passion for guns and cars, frequenting shows for each. He loved to supe up his car and would rev his Hemi engine. In fact, he would often ask his cousin (who lived around the corner) if she could hear his car when he started it in the morning. CJ was a member of the Unaffiliates Mopar Club and loved to show off his camouflage-wrapped 2019 Dodge Charger Daytona 392 that he affectionately named “Scatti Labelle”.
He was preceded in death by maternal aunt, Sandra Johnson; paternal grandparents, Margaret and Lewis Harris Sr.; paternal uncle, Lewis Harris Jr.; and paternal aunt, Joan Tate.
CJ leaves to cherish his memories, his mother Jonelle Johnson-Byrd of Colonial Beach, VA; father, Calvin Harris Sr. of Hagerstown, MD; step-father Gregory Byrd of Colonial Beach, VA; one sister, Patrice “Prissy” Johnson of Colonial Beach, VA; one brother, Christopher Lee of Hague, VA; one nephew, Cahlil Johnson of Colonial Beach, VA; one niece, Caileigh Johnson of La Plata, MD; grandparents, Mary and James Johnson Sr of Washington, DC; three aunts, Shirlene Johnson and Kathy Johnson of Montross, VA, and Lisa Johnson of Colonial Beach, VA; one uncle, James “Bird” Johnson Jr of Washington, DC; special friend, Najee Laws; special cousins, Kelisha and Kavon (JaLil) Johnson-Brown; and a host of relatives and friends.
CJ expressed his desires if something were to happen to him and he should die. He said, “Don’t have a funeral for people to be looking down in my face. Don’t buy me no flowers and don’t be walking around crying. I want y’all to have a party!”
Although we are sad to lose him in this earthly realm, we will choose to celebrate because he lived! Long Live CJ
