Carl Johnson Obituary

Carl Wilson Johnson, affectionately known as “Puggie”, of Montross, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Carl was born on September 17, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Carl and Inez Johnson. He was baptized and accepted Christ at Siloam Baptist Church Montross, Virginia when he was young. He graduated from A. T. Johnson High School.

He married Isabelle Johnson in 1968. From their loving marriage, four children were born.

Carl dedicated more than 30 years as a grounds man for the D.C. Department of Public Works and Recreation. He also worked for Grunley Construction in Washington D.C., and Captain Mo’s in White Plains, Maryland,

Carl volunteered his time driving for the Westmoreland Volunteer Rescue Squad for over twenty years. He was also a Freemason.

Carl enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending quality time with his grandchildren. He loved to travel. Carl was very giving, always giving vegetables from his garden to others. He kept himself busy shining his vehicles and being an outdoorsman (cutting wood, grass). He told humorous stories all the time to others, making a friend everywhere he went. He was a lifetime Dallas Cowboys fan. He also loved his pets.

Carl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Isabelle Johnson; his children: son, Carl Johnson (Sharron) and daughters, TaWann Johnson, Pamela Pulliam, Monica Johnson; six grandchildren: Kiana Johnson, Aliyah Avery, Carl Johnson, Jr., Carltyn Easley, Joseph Pulliam, and Shyanne Johnson; one great-grandchild, Kennedi Jones; sisters, Mary Johnson and Martha (Robert) Weldon; a host of nieces and nephews; special cousin and friend Reginald Johnson; and special friend Thomas Ashton “Tompipe”.
