Cassandra “Sis” Lanier

Cassandra “Sis” Wormley Lanier, a beloved member of the Threeway community in Warsaw, Virginia, peacefully departed this life on December 29, 2024. Born March 9, 1954 to the late Kenneth and Laurena Wormley. Sis grew up surrounded by the love and values of her close-knit family. She graduated from Richmond County High School before venturing to Arlington, Virginia. There she began her professional  career with the  Department of the Army at the Pentagon.

After several years, Sis returned to Warsaw, where she continued her career with Verizon Telephone Company. Her dedications and strong work ethic later led her to Westmoreland News, where she was employed at the time of her passing.

Sis was married to the late Willie T. Lanier Jr, with whom she shared a beautiful life and three cherished children: Wanette, Troy, and Lauren who preceded her in death. Sis’s family was her heart and joy, and she found immense fulfillment in spending time with her loved ones. She also enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports or watching it on tv. She was known for her warm, vibrant spirit and her love of bringing people together. Summers at her home were marked by lively cookouts filled with laughter, delicious food, dancing and being surrounded by family and friends.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by her daughter, Wanette Lanie and son, Troy Lanier, eight grandchildren: Marquise, Genesis, Jeremiah, Zhy’Mari, Shaniyah, LaTori, Jeremey and Amariah; one great granddaughter, Nova; her sister Barbara W. Gant; brother, Clinton Wormley (Mary); two sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Wormley and Barbara Moss; and a host of extended family and dear friends. Her kindness, strength and unwavering love for those around her will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

A Funeral Service for Cassandra “Sis” Lanier will be held on Saturday, January 11 at 12 Noon in the sanctuary of the Second Baptist Church, Warsaw, Virginia. 

Interment will follow in the Thompson Family Cemetery, Three Way, Virginia.

The viewing will be on Saturday, January 11 from 11AM until service time at Second Baptist Church.
