Cora Johnson Obituary

Cora Johnson departed this life on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.

On June 20, 1928, Cora E. Carey Johnson, daughter of the late Elizabeth Carey was born and raised in Westmoreland County, VA. She was educated through the Westmoreland Public Schools. Cora was affectionately known as “Nina”.

She married her best friend, Moses Johnson, who preceded her in death. From their union two sons were born, Leonard and Calvin Johnson, who also preceded her in death.

To everything there is a season, “A time to be born and a time to die.” The wise know that their time is in God’s hands. So it was on March 15, 2022, that God sent his angels to escort Cora from her journey here on earth to her final destination, her eternal home. A house not made by hands.

Cora was raised in a loving, Christian family by the name of Margaret and Thomas Jones. At an early age, she gave her life to Jesus Christ, was baptized, and became a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Henry Lee. She was a faithful member serving on the Usher Board, Missionary Ministry, Bible Study, and was the Mother of the Church. In addition, she was also a member of Eastern Stars. Cora was well-loved by everyone!

Cora’s employment was seasonal. She loved shucking oysters and preparing meals for her family during family reunions. She loved seeing the family gather and enjoy great food and great conversations.

She leaves to cherish her memories a loving granddaughter, Marcella (Charles) Johnson; grandson, DeWayne (Brenda) Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Terriel Johnson, Charles Johnson Jr., Sherwin Jones, Kewaine Jones, and Dominique Belton; seven great-great-grandchildren, Kayla Belton, Zymire Burrell, Terriel Johnson Jr., Keyision Johnson, Trevon Johnson, Kierra Johnson, Terrioni Johnson; brother, Samuel (Helen) Jones; godson nephew, Michael Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews; and a special niece, Queen Henry.

When Cora’s health began to fail her, granddaughter Marcella (Charles) Johnson carried her home with them and cared for her until she had to be placed in a nursing home. To know Ms. Cora was to love her.
