Deacon Baylor Obituary

On February 19, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife and loved ones, Charles received his crown. Although our hearts are broken with you no longer being physically present, we find peace knowing you are with our Lord and Savior.

Charles was born on September 11, 1939, in Zacata, VA. to the late Elizabeth Baylor. He received his education in Westmoreland County Public Schools. On June 16, 1971, Charles married the love of his life, Frances “Delores” Johnson.

At the age of 18, Charles started working at Montross Lumber Company, but after a few years he decided to see what the big city could offer. He then became employed at Air Brakes and Control Inc. in Washington, DC for a couple of years, then he realized the country was where his heart was. Charles returned to Montross Lumber Company as a dedicated mechanic, making it his career until his retirement after 20 years.

Charles accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. He was a faithful member of Morning Star Baptist Church where he served as the President of the Male Chorus and a Deacon. In the 1970’s he became well known in the community as the manager of The Sons of Faith Gospel Quartet Group. Charles 25-year tenure allowed them to travel from state-to-state singing and spreading the good news about Jesus Christ.

Charles the family patriarch, was so full of life and always had positive energy and a kind word to encourage others. He was God-fearing, charismatic, loving and always telling jokes to make everyone laugh. He faced life challenges with such unexplainable faith and grace. Charles loved hunting, raising dogs, doing mechanical work, and helping anyone that was in need.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Baylor; his son, Charles Anthony Baylor; his grandparents, Charlie and Emma Baylor; his aunts, Lucy Baylor and Viola Johnson; his daughter, Caroyln Baylor Cole; his grandsons, Glenwood Cupid Jr., and Mshairi Alkebular II; his granddaughter, Rachelle Williams; and succeeded by stepdaughter, Theresa Ramos-Fernandez.

His memories will be forever cherished by his wife, Frances “Delores” Baylor; Sons: Charles “Curtis” Baylor, Bishop Dr. Dewayne Stewart (First Lady Carla), Donnell Baylor; Stepsons: Ronald “Tony” Stewart Jr. (Jennifer), Don Green and Daryl Duncan; Daughters: Faye Alkebular, Beryl Armstrong (Robert); Stepdaughter, Darlene Duncan (Shawn); Mother-in-law, Blanche Johnson; Brother-in-laws, Rev. Tyrone Johnson (Cherlyn), Harold Johnson, and Pastor, James Johnson Jr. (Diane); 3 generations of grandchildren, and a host of family and friends
