Deacon James Arthur Hackett, Sr. Obituary

Deacon James “Jimmy” Arthur Hackett, Sr., son of the late Jessie and Henrietta Hackett, was born July 31, 1945, in Westmoreland County, VA.  God peacefully called him home on November 21, 2021, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his wife and daughter.

Jimmy was united in marriage to Linda Smith on May 5, 1979.  He was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle.  He was educated in Westmoreland County and resided in Callao, Virginia.  Throughout his career, Jimmy held several jobs - a bus driver for Westmoreland Public Schools; a construction worker in Washington, DC; Parts Manager for Montross Ford, Montross, VA; Warsaw Auto Parts, Warsaw, VA; and Parts Manager for Harvey’s Auto Parts, Heathsville, VA, until his retirement.

Jimmy served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 and received a Purple Heart for his tour in Vietnam.

Jimmy accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized as a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Kinsale, VA.  In 2002, he moved his membership to Macedonia Baptist Church, Heathsville, VA, where he was a faithful member until his health began to fail.  He served on the Trustee Ministry, Music Ministry, Men’s Ministry, and Diaconate Ministry.  He also served as Treasurer for the Deacon’s Union.  Jimmy’s love for gospel music led him to play lead guitar for his church choirs.  His favorite song was “See What the Lord Has Done.”

Jimmy loved his family and took special pride in his grandchildren.  He was loving, caring, and fun to be around.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  He loved working on cars and enjoyed spending time out in his yard.  He took great pride in keeping up the appearance of his lawn.

On November 21, 2021, Jimmy peacefully slipped away to be with the Lord.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Henrietta Hackett; his sisters, Virginia B. Hackett and Mary Crawley, his brother, Joseph Hackett; and two of his beloved grandchildren: James (Jay III) Hackett and Ja’Zye Hackett.

His memories will forever be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Linda Hackett; four children, Demetrice E. Douglas, Lewis C. Smith, James A. Hackett, Jr. (Rosalee), and Jamal D. Hackett; Brothers:  Edward Hackett (Gloria) and Robert Hackett; Sisters:  Hilda Braxton (Benson) and Irene Hackett-Brown (Willie); Grandchildren:  Chad Chadwick, Toneka Dameron, Patience Jones (Marcus), Jacques and  Justin Douglas, Ja’Niyah, Lypria, and Jameson Hackett, and King Elijah Smith; Brothers-in-law:  Eddie Bunns (Janice), Thomas Bunns (Pamela), William Pat Smith (Karen), Thomas, James P., and Robert Smith; Sisters-in-law:  Ernestine West (Stanley), Inez West, Patricia Bunns, Brenda Phillips, Carolyn Johnson (Curtis), Annette Brown (Curtis); God-daughters:  Sterling R. Jones (Malcolm) and Lisa White; God-son:  Robert L. Fauntleroy; and three very special friends:  Sean M. Jackson, Jack Newman, and Dallas Wilson.
