Deaconess Sarah Jane Ball (Lil Girl), was born on October 25, 1951, in Westmoreland County, Virginia. She was the eighth of nine children born to the late Moses Sr. and Nellie (Fulcher) Henry. Sarah fought a good fight, and on Saturday evening, August 24, 2024 the Angel of the Lord gave Sarah her wings and carried her spirit home.
Sarah received her education through the Westmoreland County Public School system. Sarah was raised in a loving Christian home and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She became an active member of Zion Baptist Church, Kinsale, Virginia, under the leadership of the late Reverend Waverly E. Taylor, and subsequently Bishop Donn R. Hall, where she remained until her transition.
Sarah served faithfully on the Deaconess Board and followed in her father’s footsteps by serving on the Trustee Board. She was always eager to assist with any other duties, as needed. Sarah was a true prayer warrior and enjoyed reading the Bible and sharing God’s Word with anyone who had an ear to hear.
Sarah met and married Thomas Ball, whom she devoted 56 years to. From this union were born, a daughter, Wendy, and a son, Thomas (Lee). Sarah was employed at Levi Strauss & Co. and retired after 40 years of dedicated service. After enjoying retirement for a few years, she started B&B Cleaning Services with her daughter, Wendy. Sarah found true joy in spending time with her loving and adoring family. She always had an encouraging word and demonstrated kindness and forgiveness to each and every person she knew. She could make anyone feel loved just by being in her presence. She had a passion for the outdoors and found joy in planting flowers and gardening. Sarah also loved fresh cut flowers, so much so, one of her last wishes was to “have her flowers while she can see them and smell them” which resulted in an outpouring of beautiful floral bouquets upon her arrival home from the hospital. Everyone who visited came with so many flowers her home resembled a florist. Sarah enjoyed shopping for fashionable clothing and dressing up for church and other events. Each time Sarah stepped out the door she looked like she was ready to walk the runway. She loved eating out at different restaurants, but seafood was her favorite. Sarah also loved to cook for her family and made sure she prepared her brother, Jerry’s favorite meal for him every Sunday…pig’s feet. Sarah took special pride in decorating her beautiful home. Though it looked like it belonged in a magazine, because of her presence, it felt like a home. Her warm and caring spirit will surely be missed, in her home and in our lives.
Sarah was predeceased by her parents, Moses Sr. and Nellie Henry; her sisters, Mary Brooks, Marie Jones, and Mamie Johnson; her brothers, Moses Jr., William, Joseph, and Robert; and grandson, Thomas Ball Jr. (TL).
Sarah will be sorrowfully missed by her husband, Thomas Ball; her daughter, Wendy Bunns (Mark); her son, Thomas Ball (Tinika); her grandchildren: Tadesha, Taliyah, Thomas, Brianna, Thomas, and Tyler; her great-grandchildren, Tiera, Kennedi, Kaylee, Amira, Eliona, Kamillah, Kehlani, Jirayah; her brother, Jerry Henry (Cheryl); her sisters-in-law, Gladys Henry, Eliza Henry, Cheryl Henry (Jerry), Thelma Jones (Richard), Joyce Jones, Phyliss Ball, and Inez Jackson; her brother-in-law, Robert Ball; Goddaughter, Javonda Henry; like a son, Craigh Ball; special friend, Sister Marlene Veney; bonus sons: Torrence (deceased), Dominqe, Altovise, and Darius; bonus daughters, Latasha Jackson and Minister Sharnta Hall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; a special Thank You to her caregivers, Rosemary Wilson, Cheryl Henry, Shelia Smith.
