Elsie Veney- Pollard Obituary

On the morning of June 19, 2024, the Lord decided it was time to call Elsie home.

Elsie Mae Veney was born on March 8, 1958, in Camden, New Jersey to the late Henry Veney and Gladys Lee Jones. At a very early age Elsie moved to her mother’s hometown of Haynesville, Virginia and was raised by her mother and the late George Irvin Brown. She and her sister Margaret accepted Christ as little girls and were baptized together at Lyells Chapel Baptist Church in Haynesville, Virginia. Elsie attended Westmoreland County School System and graduated in 1976 from Washington and Lee High School.

Elsie was a sweet and humble soul. To know her you wouldn’t have a choice but to love her. She was a loving and devoted mother to her sons Les and Keith, my boys as she would call them. They were her world and in return she was theirs. Over the years employed at various companies such as Mattituck in Montross, VA, Southtech, and Lowe’s in Tappahannock, VA, She developed many friendships. Most turned into lifetime friends but one turned into marriage to her husband Arthur Pollard on May 26, 2001.

Elsie loved life and the simple things made her happy. She loved to spend time with family, friends but she cherished time with her boys. She loved to sing and at one time she was part of gospel group at St. Johns Baptist Church in Tappahannock, VA. Through the gospel group she became part of a women’s group called Woman of Color. She loved being a part of the group and look forward to being around positive women. Once she retired she enjoyed the simple things such as fishing, watching tennis and even sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds. Getting with her husband to meeting up with her boys for a meal. Staying in the streets with her best friend Delia. Attending school events for her grandson Ezekiel and god grandson Zion.

Preceding her in death was her fathers, George Irvin Brown and Henry Veney; her brother, George Allen Brown; and her sister, Lorraine Garner.
Left to continue her legacy are her two boys Les Garnett of Durham, NC and Keith Garnett of Henrico, VA.

Left to cherish her memories are her loving and devoted husband of 23 years, Arthur Pollard of Millers Tavern, VA; her daughter-in-law, Julie Garnett and grandson Ezekiel Garnett both of Durham, NC; her god grandson, Zion Potts of Montross, VA; her mother, Gladys Veney (Mack) of Hague, VA; her brother, Randolph Veney of Paulsboro, NJ; five sisters: Virginia Dye (Gregory) of Penns Grove, NJ; Margaret Haynie (Leon) of Dale City, VA; Vickie Thompson (Cornell) of King George, VA; Dallas Brown and Barbara Brown both of Henderson, NC; one brother-in-law, Patrick Pollard (Tanya) and one sister-in-law, Cathy Pollard both of King and Queen, VA; very special friends: Delia Johnson, Brenda Fauntleroy, Taquetta Fulcher and Isaac Cleaton Jr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and many, many nieces and nephews.

Elsie was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
