Emeritus Deaconess Olivett Peyton Obituary

Emeritus Deaconess Olivett Richards Peyton of Oak Grove, Virginia passed away on Sunday, October 16 at her home. 

Emeritus Deaconess Olivett Richards Peyton was born to the late Clinton Daniel Richards, Sr. and the late Queen Sylvetta Smith Richards on May 15, 1928 and transition from earth to heavenly home on Sunday, October 16, 2022.

At an early age, Deaconess Peyton received her education in Westmoreland County, Virginia public schools.  She attended Elthart School and graduated from A.T. Johnson High School in 1946.  With education being a great part of her life, she attended PORO Beauty School in Philadelphia, PA; attended Federal City College - now known as the University of District of Columbia in 1971 where she received her nursing degree; she took additional nursing classes in Tappahannock, VA; she attended Cosmetology School in Washington, D.C where she received awards from Board of Cosmetology in Washington, D.C., April 15, 1974 and received a certificate of recognition, March 15, 1986.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Moses Peyton, in the middle eighties, and who proceeded her in death November 9, 2000.

Deaconess Peyton became a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Colonial Beach at the age of twelve whom she was baptized under the leadership of her grandfather, Pastor Daniel Richards.  She later joined Little Zion Baptist Church in Oak Grove, VA under the leadership of the late Pastor William B. Scott.  In 2008, Little Zion Baptist Church received a new Pastor – Rev. Earl Howerton, Jr.  She had a deep admiration for his leadership and referred to him as her “Little Pastor”.

She often expressed her love of Christ; God was the rock of her foundation which she stood upon. Deaconess Peyton, a very active lady in the community, was a member of the Missionary Society, Lifetime Member of NAACP, 1995, Westmoreland Weavers of the Word Storytellers’ Guild, Inc; and a member of OES (Order of the Eastern Stars) #207 where received an in March 29, 2008.

Her favorite song was, “I Feel Good, Good, Good, I feel Good Down in my soul. There is something about that name of Jesus makes me feel good!!

Deaconess Peyton was predeceased by three brothers: Clinton, Jr, Earl, and Floyd; and three sisters: Virginia Walker, Juanita Richards and Ella Doris Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Maceio D. Richards; one sister, Marie I. Bundy of Washington, D.C; one god-daughter, Joyce Reid; one god-son, Clinton Daniel Richard, III (known as Baby Brother); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, October 24 at 12 Noon in the sanctuary of the Little Zion Baptist Church, 7748 Leedstown Road, Oak Grove, Virginia.

Interment will follow in the Richards Family Cemetery, Colonial Beach, Virginia.

Deaconess Peyton may be viewed from 10AM until service time on Monday at Little Zion Baptist Church.
