Evette Carey passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022.
Evette Maryetta Carey was born on December 31, 1955 to the late Ora and William A.Carey. On Monday, October 17, 2022 the good Lord called our precious angel Evette Carey home. Words will not be able to express what she meant to all of us.
Evette accepted the Lord as her savior at an early age and she joined Jerusalem Baptist Church. Evette was educated in the Westmoreland County school system. Evette worked for Shoney’s and Ferebee’s for most of her adult life. While working at Ferebee’s Restaurant in Tappahannock, Virginia she met her Supervisor Frank Wilson who she loved like a family member.
Evette was a kind-hearted, loving person with a heart of gold who made an impact on anyone’s life that she touched. She loved and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She would spend long hours in the kitchen during the holidays prepping delicious meals. She made the best fried chicken, oysters, potato salad, rice pudding, and sweet potato pie to name a few of her special dishes. In her free time, she enjoyed playing bingo and fishing with family and friends. Evette was the heartbeat of the family and would do anything for her family. Family and friends would often refer to her as “Sweetcheeks, Betty, Sally, and Vett.”
Evette was preceded in death by her mother, Ora Carey; her father, William A. Carey; her sister, Hazel Shelton Wise; her brother, Arthur (Jr) Carey ; her grandson, Shawn Veney; her nieces, Hazel “Pinky” Wise and Melvin Kelly; and her nephew, William (AC) Crawley.
Evette leaves to cherish her memories a lifetime companion, Alvin A. Dandridge; 4 daughters: Crystal Tate (Lloyd ), Titina Carey (Malcolm), Shannon McDowney (Christopher), and Shamika Carey (Jody) ; 6 grandchildren: Tahlieka Thompson, TahQualan Brooks, Saniyah McDowney, Javian Dean, Braylen McDowney, and Malcolm Epps Jr.; 1 sister: Ernestine Turner (Sterling); 1 brother: William A. Carey (Deborah); 2 uncles: Herbert Johnson and William Johnson: three nephews who were like sons: Herman Turner, Kenneth Turner, and Howard Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
