Garbert Sevior Smith entered into eternal rest at VCU in Richmond, Virginia on July 16, 2024, at the age of 61. He was born in Colonial Beach on November 28, 1962, to Dorothy Smith Beverly.
Garbert attended Colonial Beach schools. He accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Lloyd Watts while attending New Monrovia Baptist Church in Colonial Beach, Virginia.
Garbert received his GED at Deerfield Correctional Center. He worked helping people and doing side jobs.
Garbert is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Smith Beverly; grandparents, Adell Canyon Smith and Sylvester Beverly; sister, Luvenia Smith; brother, Alvin Smith; five aunts: Inez West, Lillian Smith, Irene Leak, Lucille Smith, and Roberta Peyton; and uncle, Preston Smith.
Garbert leaves to cherish two sons, Antwan and Antonio Gross; grandson, Amarion Gross; three sisters: Judy (Jimmy) Smith, Lisa McDowney of Colonial Beach, and Sylvia Smith-Thompson (Kellie) of Spotsylvania, VA; seven neices: Kynesha Smith, Stephanie Smith, Shaniya Smith, Shakeira Smith, Ebony Smith, and Madison Smith; seven nephews: Wayne Smith, Jamie Smith, Timothy McDowney, DeaVarius Smith, Dazjuan Weldon, Dejon Weldon, and Allen Smith; seven great-nieces; nine great-nephews; eleven aunts: Mildred Peyton, Percilla Smith, Della Smith of Colonial Beach, VA, Shirley Tate, Helen Johnson, Verna Salman of Washington, DC, Regina Smith, Odessa Jolly, and Clannice Smith of Fredericksburg, VA, Phyllis (Wayne) of Tallahassee, FL, Donta (Ricky) of King George, VA; one uncle, Henry Smith (Kym) of Suitland, MD; and a host of cousins, friends, and a special friend, Denise Gross.
A Funeral Service for Gabert S. Smith of Colonial Beach, Virginia will be held on Thursday, July 25 at 12 Noon in the sanctuary of the New Monrovia Baptist Church, 121 New Monrovia Road, Colonial Beach, Virginia.
Interment will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery, James Monroe Birthplace, Colonial Beach, Virginia.
Remains may be viewed from 11AM until service time on Thursday, July 25 at New Monrovia Baptist Church.
