George Smith Obituary

George Stevens Smith slipped away peacefully into eternal rest on October 5, 2024 at his home. “Bo” was born on May 27, 1954 to the late Clarence Smith Sr. and Ada L. Smith. He attended Ralph Bunch Schools in King George, Virginia.

Bo was joined in Holy Matrimony to Etrulia “Trudy” Whiting on March 26, 1994. He worked for P. C. Goodloe for over 40 years before retiring.

Bo loved hunting for squirrels in the backyard, watching TV, playing basketball before his illness, spending time with all kids, and most of all, talking and debating. His favorite NFL team was the Commanders, in baseball - the Braves, and his favorite basketball player was Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls. Bo played in the 30-and-Over basketball league for years after playing softball on the sandlot field that his dad, brothers, and friends helped to build. They called it Braves Ball Diamond, or as Bo would say, “The best field around.”

Bo was a big family man with a heart of gold. He was always willing to give or lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He took great pleasure in teaching and giving advice to his kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and cousins about life and sports.

Bo was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilbur Michael Charles and Donald Smith; and sister, Flora “Pinky” Jackson.

Bo leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Etrulia Smith; five children: Eric Jackson, Adrian Lyons, Lionel Whiting (Rena), George Whiting, and his only daughter, Latisha Nelson (Anthony); bonus son, Stephen Byrd (Donika); sixteen grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Shirley Whiting; brother, Clarence Smith (Martha); sister, Joyce Roy (Earl); four sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; two aunts, Mary Brooks and Martha Barclay; uncle, Raymond Clark; god-son, Davon Peyton; two special cousins, Debra Smith and Larry Baylor; two friends in Heaven, Lougene Peyton and Antonio Buckner; one living friend, Leroy Cooper.
