Mike Tate, 74, of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away on January 31, 2024. He was born on May 18, 1949, in Westmoreland County, VA.
Mike was a beloved gospel singer with a God-given gift of song. His bright personality and infectious laughter brought joy to all who knew him. You could always spot Mike wearing his signature hat and sunglasses, which he lovingly referred to as "shades".
He had a mean sweet tooth and enjoyed indulging in treats like double mint gum (green pack), plain M&Ms, Hershey
bars, and Tootsie Pops.
Mike was medically retired from Brick Masonry and Concrete work after sustaining a stroke. His health continued to fail him over the years resulting in many hospital stints and eventually a cancer diagnosis later to be deemed terminal. The need for full time palliative care led him to Falls Run Nursing and Rehabilitation in Fredericksburg, VA, where he spent the last 5 years of his life.
Mike enjoyed his golden years playing Bingo, engaging in various arts and crafts, resident outings, life- enrichment activities, and in 2023 was elected as the President of Resident Council. He found great pleasure in these hobbies and enjoyed representing his fellow residents.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Tate and Bertha Lomax-Tate, infant son Michael Tate, sisters: Joyce Adams and Phyllis Jones, brothers: Alphonso Tate and Roy Johnson; brother in law: Benjamin Edwards. Mike is survived by his estranged spouse and loving friend to the end, Theresa Tate; brothers: Leonard Tate (Delois) and Gil Johnson; sister: June Edwards; daughters: Shonnett Washington (Charles), Lynn Gordon, Mckisa Tate; grandchildren: Deandre Tate, Dervon Tate, Maiya Gordon, Robyn Gordon, Daniel Gordon, Tate-Darby (Emonya), and Sierra Robinson.
