Jackie was born to the late Jacob Robert Ashton Sr. and Marie Smith Ashton in Washington D.C. When Jackie was an infant, her father relocated his family to Mount Holly, Virginia. Seventy-two years later, Jackie departed this life at her home in Mount Holly, Virginia.
At an early age, Jackie came to know the Lord and accepted the Lord as her personal Savior joining Salem Baptist Church. She was educated in the Westmoreland County Public School System graduating from A.T. Johnson High School in June 1967.
In July 1967, she married John Clyde Wright. Three children, two daughters and one son, were born from this union. In her early career, Jackie worked at Mattatuck and Washington & Lee High School both located in Montross, Virginia. Eventually, she went on to start a family-owned seafood business, J & J Wright Seafood, which furnished seafood for various restaurants and had customers that spanned all throughout Virginia. In 1993, she married Charles “Esau” Wright. Two children, a daughter, and a son, were born from this union. Jackie and her husband, Esau continued to run the seafood business right up until his passing in March 2022.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Esau Wright; parents, Jacob and Marie Ashton; sister, Brenda Ashton; sister-in-law, Alice Wright; and brothers-in-law, Tommy and Curtis Wright.
