James Samuels, Jr. Obituary

James Wardell Samuels, 64 of Locust Grove, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 5, 2022. He was born on April 16, 1958, to Sarah J. Samuels and James J. Samuels of Northumberland, Virginia.

At an early age, he became a member of Zion Baptist Church of Lottsburg, VA where he attended Sunday school and was baptized. During his childhood he was very active, loved swimming, running, and exploring outdoors being adventurous with his siblings. He was a student at Northumberland High school. Being proactive early on, he liked driving so he tried to teach his sister how to drive as well.

He was blessed at the age of 25 to welcome the birth of his 1st child, daughter Marshita Darchelle Smith and welcomed the birth of his son William James Samuels at the age of 43. Throughout years of travel, James’s was successful in professions within the labor industry and management. Due to a struggle with health issues, he retired in Virginia while in his early 50’s.

James was a creative, sociable, outgoing person with a kind heart. He enjoyed relaxing by the water and fishing with his parents, brothers, nephews, and friends. James loved good food, sports, camping, cookouts, listening to music and being surrounded by loved ones. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with his father and brothers.

James was preceded in death by his father James Samuels, brother Maurice Samuels, niece Tia Courtney and grandmother Ella Virginia Muse.

He leaves to cherish many beautiful memories, children Marshita Darchelle Smith and William James Samuels; grandchildren I’mariel Amere Smith and Jy’mere Iman Smith; mother Sarah J. Samuels; brothers Millard B. Samuels (Odessa) of Kinsale, VA, Cedric A. Samuels (Chris) of Trappe, MD, Calvin Churchill of Northumberland, VA, and sisters Mozartinia Samuels of Gaithersburg, MD, Janice L. Bunns (Eddie) of Kinsale, VA, Sarah D. Stanback (Jamel) of Locust Grove, VA; great aunt Genevieve Parker of Tappahannock, VA; uncles Millard Dobyns (Donna) of Kilmarnock, VA, and Charles Dobyns (Jackie) of Lottsburg, VA; aunts Mary Virginia Carter of Lottsburg, VA, Mildred Webb of Kingston, VA, Edith Parker (Preston) of Heathsville, VA, Muriel Harcum (David) of Northumberland, VA, Cathyee Jones (Eric) of Richmond, VA, Barbara Willingham, Leatrice Ayers, Rowena Lansey, Angela Kilson and Sharon Jeffries (Tyrone) of Baltimore, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 12 Noon in the sanctuary of Zion Church at Lottsburg, 2309 Northumberland Highway, Lottsburg, Virginia.

Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Remains may be viewed from 10AM until service time on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Zion Church at Lottsburg.
