Jesse Hill Obituary

On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, our Savior lovingly called Jesse Elwood Hill home to eternal rest.

Jesse was born on April 1, 1934, to the late Annie and George Hill.

Raised in Westmoreland County, he accepted Christ, was baptized, and joined Galilee Baptist Church in August 1946 at the age of 12. He began his education in Westmoreland County before later moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he made his home.

Throughout his life, Jesse worked in many roles that took him along highways and byways—from serving on a fishing boat in Louisiana to driving for Chrysler Motors, offering rides to countless relatives and friends, and eventually owning his own cab service, “Victory Cabs.” He was lovingly remembered for his willingness to give anyone a ride, near or far, while sharing stories, wisdom, and one of his favorite sayings: “Everything is everything.”

Jesse married Rosie Gordon on July 3, 1982. She was called to eternal rest on July 26, 2000.

Jesse was a proud member of the Masonic Order and often shared that he had achieved the 33rd Degree, the highest honorary rank. He remained a devoted member until his retirement and return to Montross, Virginia.

Jesse was kindhearted and deeply loved by his family and friends. One of ten children, he was preceded in death by all of his siblings: James, Lewis, George, Johnny, Sibbie, Charles, Moses, Walter, and Stuart.

His memories will forever be cherished by his children: Marcella Washington of Gloucester City, NJ, Ann Douglas of Warsaw, VA, Samantha Bronner of Atlanta, GA, Jermaine Haynes of Philadelphia, PA, and Darrick Jones of Tobyhanna, PA; bonus children: Arlette Gordon of Hague, VA, Maurice Gordon of Louisville, KY and Charmaine Gordon of Waldorf, MD; a loving and special companion, Levernia K. Veney; special cousin, Harry Nelson; devoted friends:  Garfield Johnson, Gerald Roane and Allen Johnson; special niece, Annette Tolson; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
