Joan Wright Lee Obituary

Joan Patricia Wright Lee was born to the late Rev. Isaac Wright and Frances Elizabeth (Johnson) Wright on November 21,1944 at their home place in Erica, Westmoreland County VA.

She was peacefully called home by the Lord the morning of Wednesday May 7, 2025 at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home, King George VA.  On Sunday May 4th Ms. Joan (as many called her) attended Church, at Salem, and had a wonderful spirit-filled fellowship with family and friends.  However, God in his infinite mercy, saw fit to call her home to be at eternal rest and peace.

Her journey of faith with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, began at an early age after accepting Christ as her Savior in her childhood days.  She continued to be a faithful worshiper at Salem throughout her life.  Many will remember her by her humble spirit.  But EVERY child that has attended Salem whether they are 4 years old or 40 years old will remember her for the candy, money or hugs.  They all had the same name, and when they heard “Come here Little Boy or Little Girl”, they knew they were in for a treat!  She just loved EVERY child she met!

Joan worked at Arrowhead Manufacturing, Montross VA for many years and made many friends there. In 1983 she married Harry Vernon Lee. They were married until he was called to be with his Savior in 2003.  When her parents were ill, Joan didn’t hesitate to step up to the plate to move in and be their caretaker, until their passing (Dad 1998, Mother 2006).  After her dad passed, her husband became ill, and she also took care of him while caring for her mother.

Joan loved to laugh and have a good time with her family.  All you had to do was laugh and she would laugh along with you, and figure out later what everyone was laughing about, but if it made you laugh, she wanted to join in too.  She loved them all unconditionally.  She loved to cook.  Her best friend Burneda would often have their own little cookoffs and share recipes to see who could cook the best dish.

Joan leaves to cherish SO many friends that she would always ask about: The entire Rev Tony and Charlene Hackett family (especially Tiffany). She loved EVERY nephew, niece and cousin.  The love she and her nephew Little Rob shared was unmatched.  It was a joy to see how each of them just lit up with excitement every time they saw each other.

Joan leaves to cherish so many family members who will forever miss her unique personality, laughter and love.  Her memories will forever live with all of us.   We will certainly miss her at the family farmhouse gatherings, where she loved to be.  She is survived by her only son Roger Wright; two grandchildren, Alecia, Roger, Jr., one great grandchild, Ara’bella Johnson.  Survived by six of ten brothers; Lloyd (Brenda), Milton (Mable), John (Paulette), Wayne (Sheila), Herbert (Deloris) and Robert.  Survived by one of two sisters, Janet (Wayne).  She mourned the loss of four siblings, brothers; Jerry, James, Charles (Luella), George (Carolyn) and one sister Naomi (Rev James Johnson).  She leaves memories with her dear aunt, Aunt Rachel Brooks.  She is also survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces and so many special friends that loved her dearly.
