Joe Louis Streets

Joe Louis Streets, son of the late Walter and Thelma Baylor Streets was born on March 14, 1937, in Westmoreland County, Virginia. After a courageous battle with health challenges, Joe Louis’ earthly work was finished. God called him to his heavenly home on January 19, 2022. He was 84 years of age.

Early in life Joe confessed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined Grant’s Hill Baptist Church in Leedstown, Virginia. He was a faithful member.

He received his education in the public schools of Westmoreland County. Joe served a tour of duty with the United States Air Force. Upon being honorably discharged, he returned home and was employed as a farm laborer and truck driver. He transported goods for Edwards Grain of Montross, Virginia, Quarles Petroleum Inc. in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and J. R. Fogg. After retiring, Joe worked part-time at Ingleside Vineyards in Oak Grove, Virginia until his health began to fail. He was a dedicated worker and took great pride in his truck driving skills.

On December 19, 1958, Joe wed Joan Marjorie Nash. To this union one daughter was born, Theresa.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Thelma Baylor Streets; brother, Walter Streets Jr. (Lorriane).

He is survived by his devoted and faithful wife, Joan Marjorie Streets; daughter, Theresa Jones (Lester); two granddaughters, Thercia Jones Johnson (Robert) and Lestina Jones; three great-grandsons, Riley, Ryan, and Rydale Johnson; sister, Ella Streets of Washington, DC; two brothers, Willis Streets (Tina) of Alexandria, VA and Lloyd Streets of Colonial Beach, VA; special nieces, Margaret Ward, Arlene Cryle, Patricia, Barbara Butler, Betsy Hickman, April Streets, and Vanessa Hickman; loving friends, Charles Ashton, Mildred Ashton, Richard Reed, and Gerald Reed; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Joe Louis will be missed by his family, friends, and the community.

Funeral service Joe Streets who departed this life on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 12 Noon in the sanctuary of the Little Zion Baptist Church, 7748 Leedstown Road, Oak Grove, Virginia.

Interment will follow in the Little Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Streets may be viewed from 4PM until 6PM on Thursday, January 27, 2022, in the chapel of the WELDON-FISHER FUNERAL HOME and from 11AM until service time on Friday at Little Zion Baptist Church.
