Obituary

John Horace Love, Jr. was born on January 7, 1943 to the union of John and Ida Mae Love.  He was the 7th  of 10 siblings.

He received his early Christian education and was baptized at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church pastored by the late Rev. James E. Moss, in Detroit, MI.  He loved to sing, and served as a bass in the Inspirational Choir.

John was educated in the Detroit Public Schools, and received his High School Diploma in 1960 from Northern High School, in Detroit, MI .  After high school he served in the U.S. Army as an Honor Guard, during the funeral services of the late President John F. Kennedy.  After military service, he built a life for himself in Washington, D.C. where he worked as an esteemed Detective for the D.C. Metropolitan Police.

It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Emma Jean Binder, to whom he was married for over 50 years before her untimely demise in April of 2018.

John enjoyed the outdoors hunting, sailing, and fishing.  He also enjoyed cooking and crab-boils, and looked forward to feeding his delicacies to a host of family and friends.

Though he had no children of his own, John loved children, his family and friends.  He was a good neighbor to his community in Montross, VA, having served as a volunteer fire fighter after he retired.  He was a good man, with a good heart.  He and his loving wife Jean would help anyone that asked.  They believed in the power of education, and significantly contributed to the education costs of young people pursuing a college education.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters Virlene Martin, Detroit, Michigan; Maggie Ridgell, Decatur, Georgia; his brother, Roosevelt Love (Learlene), Detroit, Michigan; and a host of relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents: John Love and Ida Mae Love, his siblings: Frank Robinson, Sr., Bessie Carter, Emma Jean Taylor, Doris Mae Love, Annie Mariah Vance, and Terry Evon Bennett.
