John Dillard ‘JD’ Lucas, age 76, was born on February 11, 1945, to Annie Lucas and the late William E. Lucas. He peacefully transitioned on Friday, August 27, 2021.
John was educated in the Richmond County Public School system. He earned an Associates degree from Cortez Peters Business College in Washington, DC. Later he worked for the city of Richmond, Virginia, the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, and National Home Builders Association in Washington, DC. In these roles he worked in the computer and information technology departments. He retired in Warsaw, Virginia.
John enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was passionate about watching sports, especially football, and discussing politics and education. John was a member of Clarksville Baptist Church in Warsaw, Virginia.
John leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Annie Lucas; his daughters, Taunya (John Will) Belton and Monica (Herman) Reynolds; siblings, Lawrence Lucas and Carolyn Baylor; his grandchildren, Janay (Aaron) Joseph, Nigel Reynolds, and Erica Reynolds; his great-grandchildren, Anayla and Kylie Joseph; nieces, Dr. Sonya Lucas, Tiwanna Scott, Tierra (Fred Reynolds) Baylor; nephews, Todd Lucas, Edward Thompson, Vermon Coates, Jr., and Ramone Coates; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his father, William E. Lucas, and his siblings, William Lucas, Geneva Brown, and Vermon Coates
Funeral service for John D. Lucas will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 11AM in chapel of the WELDON-FISHER FUNERAL HOME.
Interment will be in the Clarksville Baptist Church Cemetery, 445 Menokin Road, Warsaw, Virginia.
Mr. Lucas may be viewed from 10AM until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
