Joyce Elaine Muse Obituary

Joyce Elaine Muse gained her wings on November 11, 2024, at the age of 75. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, cherished aunt, and a dear friend to many.

Born on December 6, 1948, to the late Florence Edna Gllis and Wilburt Leland Turner, Joyce’s father passed away when she was young. Her stepfather, William West Jr., stepped in and raised her. She was raised and attended school in Richmond County. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined New Zion Baptist Church. She was a dedicated member of the church, serving on the Usher Board, in the Joys of Faith Choir, and later in life, as a Deaconess.

In her early years, Joyce worked picking tomatoes as her first job. She also enjoyed spending time with her mother, helping her throughout the years. Joyce had a love for playing softball, dancing, and attending church.

Joyce worked various jobs throughout her life, but she was most notably a dietary aide at Carrington Place for 30 years. In her free time, she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, word finds, and reading. She was an avid television watcher, particularly enjoying soap operas, westerns, and watching Washington Commanders football games. Joyce also treasured spending time with her family and attending family events.

Joyce was known for being kind, thoughtful, and always supportive. She gave generously of her time and energy to those she loved, offering a listening ear, a helping hand, and words of encouragement whenever needed. Her loyalty to her friends, family, and community was unwavering, and she made a positive impact on the lives of all who knew her. Later in life, Joyce developed a passion for traveling after her first trip to Jamaica and looked forward to exploring more destinations.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Robert Muse, and her siblings: Thomas Turner (Cora), Gladys Clarke (Ernest Lee), George Turner, Jean West, and Florence Doretha Turner; as well as her brother-in-law, Alfred Turner Sr.

Joyce cherished her memories with her two sisters, Verline Canada and Geraldine Turner; and her sister-in-law, Sedonia Turner. She leaves behind her loving children, Paula Muse, Veronica Muse, and Thomas Muse (Shalon); ten grandchildren: Tyrell, Jaleel (DeLante), Tracy (TT), Antoine, Tyiesha, Aaliyah, Trinity, Malaysia, Tomiyah, Thomas Jr. (TJ); and one bonus grandchild, Ariana (Cupcake) and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and community grandchildren, all of whom will carry on her legacy and remember her with love.
