Leroy Johnson

On September 11, 2023, Leroy Johnson stepped into eternal rest at Laurel of Bon Air in Richmond, VA. He was born on September 18, 1943, in Essex County, Virginia to the late William and Martha Johnson.

Leroy received his education in the Essex County School System. Leroy accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Essex, VA. Later in life, he rejoined New Zion Baptist Church in Warsaw, VA.

On November 25, 1967, he was married in Holy matrimony to Emma Jane. They had one devoted daughter, Coretta.

He later married Gloria Jean Fulcher on December 3, 1985, whom he preceded in death.

Leroy was employed at Potomac Supply Company for over 25 years. He had a passion for building picnic tables and other wood products until his health declined about 3 years ago.

Leroy always dressed up everywhere he would go, especially Food Lion. He had a brilliant smile that would light up a room. If you knew him, he was known as Mr. GQ of the County. He loved fried fish and spending time with family and friends. Also he enjoyed listening to music and having a good time.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, William and Martha Johnson; two sisters, Nettie Coleman and Dorothy Mouzon; and three brothers, Wilbert Johnson, Floyd Johnson, and Edward Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted daughter, Coretta Morris of Richmond, VA; two sisters, Gladys Carr of Williamstown, NJ, and Emma Jane Davis of Colonial Beach, VA; two granddaughters, Jazmine Morris of Richmond, VA, and Jayla Morris of Richmond, VA; one great-granddaughter, Journeé Morris; two great-grandsons, Ja’cari Morris and Ja’vontae Morris of Richmond, VA; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Johnson of Fredericksburg, VA and Dorothy Mae Johnson of Colonial Beach, VA; brother-in-law, Danny Mouzon of Salisbury, NC; a devoted niece, Karen Smith; special friends: Rachel Brooks, Annie Campbell, Lenora Lee, Florence Pollard, and Thomas Russell; caregiver, Bonnie Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

Leroy Johnson departed this life on Monday, September 11, in Richmond, Virginia.

Home going Services will be held on Friday, September 22 at 1PM in the sanctuary of the Galilee Baptist Church, 20461 Kings Highway, Montross, Virginia.

Interment will follow in the Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery.
Remains may be viewed from 12 Noon until service time on Friday, September 22 at Galilee Baptist Church.
