Mary Baylor Obituary

Mary Tena, married to the late Deacon John Arthur Tate, departed this life on Monday, November 13, 2023.

She was born on August 15, 1950, to the late Horace Q. Plummer and Beatrice Harris Plummer. She had one sister and four brothers who proceeded her in death, Dorothy Harris Barksdale, Morris Bennett Harris (Dickie), Horace Dennis Plummer (Boo), Howard Ellet Plummer (Peter) and Ernest Plummer (Ernie).

Mary served as a Deaconess and Usher at Zion Church of Lottsburg.  She worked for many years at Levi Strauss formerly in Warsaw, Virginia before beginning a career in the retail world.  Later in life, Mary became a school bus driver for Colonial Beach and Essex counties.  She loved driving the bus because she said it felt like they were all her grandkids.  She also loved playing softball and watching her beloved Atlanta Braves.  In the 80’s, she was a pitcher for Bushrod Disposal’s Women’s Softball Team, and she absolutely loved playing bingo.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her three daughters: Tena (Rodney) Reynolds of Newark, Texas, Janet (Devon) White of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Charlene Robertson of Warsaw, Virginia; nine grandchildren: Mykel (Danielle), Keman, Christian, Christal, Tyrelle (Whitney), Marcus, Jazmen, Jadah and Jaelynn; fifteen great grandchildren: Gabriella, Caleigh, Caedyn, Devon, Kaivion, Keniaya, Ilaya, Keman, Ayden, Jaiden, Xavier, Jaxx, Wrynn, Amari and Alaia; sister, Martha Tate; two brothers, Charles and John Carroll Plummer; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

We’d like to give a special thank you to Melinda Wilson and her wonderful team of caregivers at Quality Home Care 4 U.
