Mary M. Hunter

Mary Magdeline Hunter transitioned from earth to her heavenly home on Sunday, April 5, 2026. She was born to the late Robert and Ella Byrd of Westmoreland County, Virginia.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert R. Hunter; six brothers, Robert, Jacob, Isaiah, Abraham, Joseph, and Raymond Byrd; and one sister, Fannie Self.

Mary received her education in the Westmoreland County, Virginia public school system and was employed at Mount Rose Canning Company in King George, Virginia. During this time, she met the love of her life, Robert, with whom she shared 69 devoted years of marriage. From their union, one daughter was born.

Mary gave her life to Christ at an early age and became a member of Little Zion Baptist Church in Oak Grove, Virginia. She was an active and dedicated servant, participating in the Choir, Pastor’s Aid, and Flower Club until her health began to decline. After relocating to Temple Hills, Maryland with her daughter, Mary remained steadfast in her walk with the Lord, faithfully watching services via livestream each Sunday. She always enjoyed the praise and worship and would often joyfully remark, “Pastor preached a word today, didn’t he?!”

Mary was a woman of grace and style with a little sass. Her unwavering faith in God was her source of strength, and she instilled those values in her family. She was generous with both her time and her heart. She was an exceptional cook who was known for her pound cakes, sweet potato pies, and pear preserves. She cherished the time spent with family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren, and loved her weekly phone calls with her friends that were always filled with laughter. She also enjoyed watching her favorite game shows, including Let’s Make a Deal, The Price Is Right, and Family Feud, as well as cheering for her favorite football team, the Washington Commanders.

Mary leaves to cherish her precious memories and legacy: her beloved daughter, Henrietta Parker; devoted son-in-law, Lonnie Parker; two grandchildren, Andrea Parker and Latoya Young (David, Jr.); four great-grandchildren, Briana Parker, Dorian Young, David Young III, and Dasia Young; one sister, Annie M. Hunter; her goddaughter, Sarina Tate; bonus daughter, Patricia Ann Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

She will be deeply missed, yet her love will live on forever in our hearts.
