Milton Byrd Obituary

Milton Byrd, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 8, 2023. He was the son of the late Otha and Frank Byrd born April 5, 1937, in Essex County, Virginia.

Milton left behind a legacy of kindness that touched the lives of all who knew him. He received his education from the public school system of Westmoreland County, Virginia.  At an early age he gave his life to Christ as his personal savior at Grants Hill Baptist Church in Leedstown, Virginia. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Ida Louise Self. From this union two daughters were born, Audrey and Lisa.

Milton started his career as a truck driver for Ingleside Planation Nursery, and traveled across the United States. He loved to give directions any time you called him, and if you were lost he would help you find your way back in the right direction.

He loved listening to music; his favorite church song was “Rough Side of the Mountain”. His hobbies included playing cards, fishing, and planting his garden.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Lisa McGee Richards (Spencer); his sister, Beatrice Berry (William); brothers-in-law, Raymond Self and Lloyd Self; sisters-in-law: Georgia Phillips (Eldridge), Rose Byrd, Alberta Byrd, and Rose Marie Byrd; his grandchildren: Brittany Robinson (Steven), Tony McGee (Shanie), and Terrance McGee; his best friend, Alfred Harris; and host of nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his spouse Ida Byrd, his parents Otha and Frank Byrd; his daughter Audrey Redmond; siblings: Edward Byrd, Willie Byrd, Charles Byrd, Nathaniel Byrd, Thomas Byrd, Everett Byrd, John Henry Byrd, Cora Jackson, and Bernice Johnson.

Milton’s commitment to spreading love and joy left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known him. His memory will forever live on through the lives of his family and friends, who will undoubtedly carry on the legacy of kindness he exemplified so well.
