"Weldon-Fisher Funeral Home don't own the rights to this song"
Minister Monica Ophelia Ashton Lomax, affectionately known as “Mo” or “Pooh”, transitioned from her earthly home to her Heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 25, 2021. Although this was so sudden and a shock to all, the greatest joy is knowing one of God’s most faithful servants is now serving the Lord on a whole new level. Oh how bright that smile is now!
Monica was born to Lenwood and Bertha Ashton on July 7, 1976. Little did they know that bright, bubbly baby would grow into a woman with such a genuine and pure heart of gold, that literally touched hundreds of people she came in contact with. Monica entered this world on a mission and she definitely conquered and exceeded her mission on Earth. To know her was to LOVE her! No one could ever have one bad thing to say about her. Monica had such great love and compassion for everyone that she came in contact with. She would go out of her way to do anything for anyone. Her greatest passion was to minister and save souls. You would often hear her say, “All is well.” Her favorite scripture that she often quoted was Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them that are called according to His purpose.”
Mo accepted Christ at an early age and joined Salem Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Wilbur Dameron. She later moved her membership to United Nations Church International of Fredericksburg under the leadership of Pastor Leslie Veney and Apostle-Elect Lisa Veney.
Monica attended Westmoreland County Public Schools. She graduated high school in 1994 and then attended Virginia Commonwealth University, where she met and made an impact on more people. The biggest impact was the day she met “Honey Babe”, the love of her life, Charles Lomax. On July 15, 2006, she married her best friend and they became one. To know genuine love, all you had to do was be around them. Their chemistry, their bond, their love for one another was like no other.
Monica is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Charles and Mary Ashton; maternal grandfather, Elmer Martin, Sr.; uncles, Robert, John, Walter, and Alexander Martin.
Monica leaves to cherish her joyous memories her loving husband of 15 years, Charles Lomax; her special and spoiled fur baby, Milo; step-son, Charles Lomax, Jr.; step-daughter, DaiShamar Lomax; her devoted parents, Lenwood and Bertha Ashton; maternal grandmother, Leanna Martin; three sisters, Pamela Fortune, Bertha Martin, and Angel Ashton; brother, Lenwood Ashton, Jr.; aunts, Linda Ashton and Geraldine (Quinton) Tompkins; a very special aunt, Charlotte Pugh; four uncles, Charles Ashton, Maxwell Ashton, Elmer Martin, Jr., and Perry Ashton; two great-aunts, Martha Dixon and Susie (Roderick) Newman; two sisters-in-law, Gail (Elmer) Henry and Nellie (Jimmy) Lomax; brother-in-law, Frank (Debbie) Lomax; niece, Jasmine (Will) Quinin; like a niece, Erica Johnson; seven nephews, Darryl Turner, Jr., Timothy Gordon, Lenwood Ashton III, Ja’Khai Harris, Rickey Fortune, Jaylin Harris, and Peyton Thompson; like a nephew, Christopher Lomax; her very special friends, Serita Mack, Danita Bibbens, Kristy Peyton, Renata Smith-Bemer, Tonya Smith, Shenell Long Young, Alfonso Jackson, Kevin Burnett, John Wilson, and George Jones; and a host of cousins and friends
