Miriam Doris Jones Lane was born on June 7, 1927, to the late William H. and Miriam V. Jones in Westmoreland County, Virginia. She joined Galilee Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served in the church’s Nurse’s Unit. She attended Westmoreland County Public Schools.
Doris, as she was affectionately known, was united in marriage to Walter David Lane in 1945. She was an employee of Levi Strauss & Company for many years and a Charter Member of the Westmoreland County Volunteer Rescue Squad, Mt. Holly, Virginia. Upon her retirement, Doris became a Home Health Aide until her health began to fail.
Doris enjoyed taking day trips, shopping, crafting and spending time with family.
Doris is preceded in death by her mother and father William H. and Miriam V. Jones; husband, Walter David Lane; son David Wesley Lane; grandson David “Yondell” Jones; sisters Ruth McGhee, Lue Jones and Ernell Andrews; brothers William Jones, Leonard Jones, Floyd Jones and Lawrence Jones.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, three daughters, Ernestine Wise, Christine Bowles and Dorita Jones; three sons, Lorenzo Jones, William “Leroy” Lane and Daryl Lane; one brother Austin Jones; one daughter-in-law, Thelma Lane; four sisters-in-law, Leola Schaffer, Emma Jones, Deloise Jones and Mary Jones; fifteen grandchildren, many great and great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends
Home going service for Miriam Doris Lane will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at 12 Noon in the sanctuary of the Galilee Baptist Church, 20461 Kings Highway, Montross, Virginia.
Interment will follow in the Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery.
Remains may be viewed from 4PM until 6PM on Monday, December 20, 2021, in the chapel of the WELDON-FISHER FUNERAL HOME and from 10AM until service time on Tuesday at Galilee Baptist Church.
