Mosetta Fisher Obituary

Deacon Mosetta Maria Gaskins Fisher, affectionately known as Mom Mom, was born October 21, 1926 to the late Joseph and Eleanor Gaskins. She received her education in Westmoreland County and in Queens, Long Island, New York school systems.


Deacon Fisher married the love of her life, Mr. Robert Lee Fisher. They were blessed to become parents of one son, Kenneth (deceased). Her family was central to her life. She was a loyal, dedicated, and loving, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.

Deacon Fisher joined Potomac Baptist Church at an early age. As a member of Potomac Baptist Church, she served as a Deaconess, member of the Senior Choir member, Senior Missionary Ministry, Seniors Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Deacons Ministry, and was faithful in Bible Study and Sunday School. She enjoyed her positions as president of the Senior Missionary, Sunday School Teacher, Junior Missionary Sponsor, and Vacation Bible School instructor. Mrs. Fisher was honored to receive lifetime membership in the Women’s Commission of the Northern Neck Baptist Association and the Women’s Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Virginia.

Deacon Fisher was a civic minded and conscientious person who worked with the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, the Westmoreland Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary, the NAACP (life member), and Meals on Wheels. She was a founding member of the WRNL Citizens Club, an organization that does charity work throughout the Northern Neck and worked with the Westmoreland Democratic Committee.

Deacon Fisher did whatever was needed for whoever was in need without expectation of pay. She fulfilled many requests for her delicious homemade chocolate pound cakes and homemade fudge. She strived to make the best better and did her best to bring sunshine to those in despair and need. She was preceded in death by her siblings and great-grandson, Curtis Fisher, Jr.

Deacon Fisher is survived by her grandsons Curtis L. Fisher, Sr. and George L. Golden, Jr., both of Tappahannock, Virginia, several nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, a son and daughter in Christ, George and Deacon Viola Golden, Tappahannock, Virginia., god-daughter, Connie Marie Smith, Montross, VA.
