Reverend Vernard "Tony" Gaskins Obituary

Rev. Vernard A. "Tony" Gaskins, a pillar of strength and faith, transitioned from this life on Friday, March 1, 2024, with his devoted wife Loretta by his side. Born on November 20th, 1946, to Willis and Mary Gaskins in Xenia, Ohio, he was the youngest of four children. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering commitment to his faith.

Rev. Gaskins was a man of many accomplishments and diverse experiences. A proud graduate of Central State University and a distinguished Army Veteran, he served his country with honor and distinction. Twelve years ago, he retired as an Electrical Inspector for nuclear plants across the United States, where his dedication to safety and excellence was recognized. During his career, he also worked at Delphi Automotive Systems Corp and the Centerville Police Department.

However, Rev. Gaskins' true calling came from a higher power. He accepted his call to preach many years ago and devoted his life to serving the Lord. A God-fearing man, his presence commanded attention, yet his baritone voice was always accompanied by kindness and a gentle tone that made his words resonate deeply with those who listened. He had an extraordinary gift for providing comfort and guidance to all those who sought his counsel. He also taught Sunday School and Bible Study in various churches.

Rev. Gaskins was not only committed to his church but also to the well-being of those around him. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was a steadfast helpmate to anyone in need. Wherever he went, he left an everlasting mark on the hearts of those he encountered which included inheriting bonus sons and daughters wherever he went. Throughout his lifetime he had many special friends who stood by him and shared his faith till the very end.

In addition to his dedication to his faith and community, Rev. Gaskins cherished his time with his family. He was a man of laughter and joy, who enjoyed traveling and creating precious memories with his loved ones. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Loretta M. Gaskins; his daughters, Toni Borris (James) and Teresa Jackson; his son, Donald P. Gaskins; his grandson, Daniel T. Jackson; and his nephews, Steven Gaskins (Isola) and Omari Gaskins (Shawnta).

He is preceded in death by Willis & Mary Gaskins, Parents, and Sisters, Juanita Gaskins and Ruth Anderson, Brother, Donald Gaskins, Niece, JaCreia Gaskins, Nephew, Scott Gaskins, and Nephew, Jordan Gaskins.

Rev. Vernard A. "Tony" Gaskins will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, compassion, and faith will continue to inspire generations to come. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched forever.

His Words: “I Ain’t Got Time to Complain, I’m too Grateful.”
