Richard Addison Tate Obituary

Richard Addison Tate, son of the late James Sylvester Tate and Sadie Irene Tate Young was born on January 20, 1952 in Westmoreland County Virginia. Ricky, as he was affectionately known, was the third of eight children. On January 23, 2022, Ricky peacefully finished his life journey and went on to be with his Heavenly Father.

Ricky was educated in the Westmoreland County Public School System. At an early age, he joined Siloam Baptist Church. He worked for many years as a mechanic with more than 20 years at J & F Motors in Arlington, VA until his health began to fail.

Ricky enjoyed going to race tracks on the weekends, collecting rare coins and being around his family and friends. He has been described as “a man of little words and many facial expressions with eyes that could tell all you needed to know”. He could always make you laugh and smile with his entertaining personality.

Ricky had a fighting spirit. He was loved by everyone who knew him. His strength and spirit were an inspiration to us all and in spite of his battle with health issues he was a warrior until the end. He will be missed by all but remembered forever.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents James Sylvester Tate and Sadie Irene Tate Young; his grandmother Sadie Ann Tate; and his brother Reginald James Tate.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his two daughters Nicole Gray and Sarina Tate; five sisters, Deloris Johnson, Joan Johnson, Barbara Ashton (Daniel Ray), Lisa Tate, and Cathy Young, one brother Samuel D. Young, Jr.  (Veronica); four grandchildren; one aunt, Shirley Wise; a loyal dear friend and companion, Arzalea Tate; three special friends, Sam Branson, Curtis Campbell and Curtis Clark; and a host of other relatives and friends to whom he held dear
