Robert B. Ashton affectionately known as “Bob” peacefully transitioned into eternal life on September 21, 2022. Robert was born on October 26, 1936, to the late Robert “Rossie” and Virgie “Elizabeth” Ashton in Montross, VA.
Robert accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age, and was baptized at Siloam Baptist Church in Montross, VA. He received his education from the Westmoreland County Public School System. After completing school, Robert was drafted into the United States Army where he served 2 years and 3 months as a Sharpshooter.
Robert met Florence Winstead in Washington, DC and joined union on July 19, 1963. During their union, they devoted their lives to raising 3 sons: Reginald, Kevin, and Quintin Ashton and years later a daughter, Felicia Campbell.
Robert was a dedicated and hard worker determined to provide for his family. He worked for the United States Printing Office, D.C. Taxi, Pontiac Auto Body Shop, New Car Transport, Purvis Auto Body Shop, Quarles Petroleum (Virginia Tank Lines), Southland, and Citgo as the Master Driver. Robert worked all his life and struggled with retirement. He was not the one to sit around and do nothing, so he started delivering The Washington Post. Years later, Robert joined his son Quintin in the trucking industry and became the owner and operator for
R B Ashton Trucking.
Robert loved driving to Atlantic City to test his luck at the casinos. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time on the Potomac River on his Grady White boat. Robert was always gathering up family members to go fishing. This special hobby was shared with his father and brothers over the years.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Rossie” and Virgie “Elizabeth” Ashton; father and mother-in-law, Henry and Annie Bell Winstead; grandson, Domonique Johnson; siblings, Vernell and Christine Ashton, Virginia “Eloise” (William) Hall, Lester Ashton, and Gloria Ashton, Brenda Winstead, Wanda (Johnnie) Winstead, and Willie Winstead.
Left to carry his legacy and cherish fond memories of him is his wife of 59 years; Florence Ashton; children, Reginald Ashton, Kevin (Valarie) Ashton, Quintin (Pamela) Ashton, and Felicia Campbell; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; siblings, Willnette Carpenter, Marion (William) Johnson, Ernest (Margie) Ashton, Thomas (Diane) Ashton, Ruth Ashton Wilson, Phyllis (Raymond) Morris, Brenda (Ronald) Cummings, Barbara (Vorden) Wood, Garrey (Patricia) Ashton, Alma (Robert) Robinson and Wilbur Winstead; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 12 Noon in the sanctuary of the Siloam Baptist Church, 1614 Zacata Road, Montross, Virginia.
Interment will follow in the Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery.
Remains may be viewed from 10AM until service time on Saturday at Siloam Baptist Church.
