Ruby Thompson Obituary

On Sunday, March 3rd, 2024, our Lord and Savior called His daughter, Ruby B. Thompson from labor to rest. Ruby was born October 9th, 1931, to the late Gertrude Branson Kelley.

At an early age Ruby accepted Christ and joined Siloam Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until her health prevented her attending.

Ruby was educated in the Westmoreland County Public Schools system.
On October 22nd, 1949, Ruby married the love of her life, Lewis Kenneth (Kenny) Thompson. From this union two children were born, Edna Mae Thompson and Lewis M. Thompson.

Ruby loved to fish. She would go out on the boat with her Uncle Irvin Willis every chance she could. She would not only catch the fish, but she would bait the hooks, clean the fish, and then give some away.

Ruby worked many jobs during her long career. She was a domestic worker for many years after which she went to work for Scoville, before they became Arrowhead, making lipstick containers. This was during the Viet Nam conflict and if needed, those lipstick containers could be turned into shell casings for ammunition.

When Arrowhead closed, Ruby went to work for Westmoreland Public School System in food services at Washington and Lee High School and Cople Montross Middle School, from which she retired.

Ruby was predeceased by her husband Kenny and her daughter Edna Mae.

Ruby leaves to cherish her memories her son, Lewis Thompson (Marilyn); her sister, Catherine Reed of Montross, Virginia; two grandsons, Trevonne Thompson (Nicole) of Chicago, Illinois and Ryan Thompson (Kanitra) of College Park, Georgia; step-grandson, Nathaniel Richardson (Carrissa) of Charles City, Virginia; great-grandchildren: Kenneth, Olivia, Ava, Sophia of Chicago, Illinois, Tao D’Juan, who was born on her birthday, Khalil, and Nyra of College Park, Georgia; step-great-grands Brooke, Preston, and Evelyn of Charles City, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Irene H. Thompson of Glassboro, New Jersey and Annie Wilson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; special great nephew and niece, James, and Coralynn (Polly) Wise who would make sure she had breakfast and take her meds; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Ruby Thompson of Montross, Virginia and beloved mother of Reverend Lewis Thompson will be held on Saturday, March 16 at 12 Noon in the auditorium of the Westmoreland High School, 16762, Kings Highway, Montross, Virginia.

Interment will follow in the Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery, 1614 Zacata Road, Montross, Virginia.
