Shirlene M. Burton was born on March 1, 1956 in Westmoreland County, VA. On February 9, 2021 God called upon her and she joined Him through the gates of heaven.

She received her education at the public schools of Westmoreland County.

She was joined in holy matrimony to Melvin Lee Burton on August 26, 1989. From this union, they were blessed with one son.

Shirlene was well known and loved by all. She was a loving friend and worked hard to care for her loved ones. On the weekends, you could always find her at Reflections hair salon by Tamie Howard or shopping with her closest nieces (Alexia and Aaliyah Lambert of Montross, VA) and best friend (Sharon Wise of Hague, VA). She also enjoyed cooking, playing card games, watching WWE and soap operas, and her favorite team was the Washington Redskins.

She truly was an angel sent from heaven who touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, joyful laughter, kind spirit, and stylish hairdos.

Shirlene is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. Burton; her father, Daniel H. Johnson; her mother, Christine D. Johnson; her sisters, Dorothy Carey and Laura Johnson; and her brothers Elwood and Connie Johnson.

She is survived by her son, Dwayne Burton (Keisha) Caret, VA; her sisters, Esther Hocker and Gracie Dugger of Richmond, VA, Mary Johnson of Hague, Va, Nettie Ann Champ of Falls Church, VA, Reverend Cathy Abney of Pennsylvania, Hazel Robinson (Donald) of Fredericksburg, VA, and Darlene Burton (Jesse) of Montross, VA; her brothers, James Johnson of Newark, NJ, Stuart Johnson of Richmond, VA, and Larry Johnson of Connecticut; her sisters-in-law, Laura Mae Carter and Mary Ann Carey of Hague, VA; and her brothers-in-law, Sonny, Earl, and Sherman Burton of Hague, VA, and Charles Burton of Fredericksburg, VA. She also leaves behind one grandchild, Amoni Burton of Colonial Beach, VA, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Shirlene will always be our loving guardian angel.

Funeral services for Shirlene M. Burton will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 12 Noon in the chapel of the WELDON-FISHER FUNERAL HOME.

Interment will follow in the New Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery,3695 Kills Mill Road, Kinsale, Virginia.

Walk through viewing (MASK REQUIRED) from 10AM until service time on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the funeral home.
