Sylvester Eugene Roy Obituary

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m FREE; I’m following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard Him call, He closed my eyes, and I left it all.
Sylvester Eugene Roy Sylvester Eugene Roy was born on April 19, 1952, to the late Broadus Roy and the late Inita Johnson-Baylor in Westmoreland County Virginia. He departed this life on Friday, October 3, 2025. Sylvester also called “Syl” by many that knew him, loved the Lord with all His heart, where at an early age he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at Shiloh Baptist Church in (Lerty) Montross, VA and later transferred his membership to Little Zion Baptist Church, Oak Grove, VA, where he was a faithful member. Sylvester served on the Senior Citizens Ministry. He was a very hard worker who was determined to have a great life for himself. Sylvester was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. His joy was helping others along the way. He was a volunteer with the RAAA Senior Citizens of King George County and the Fox Towne Adult Care Center, King George, VA. His willpower was strong until his death. Sylvester was educated at Colonial Beach High School, Colonial Beach, VA, where he graduated in 1970, and continued his education at Howard University, Washington, DC where he graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He furthered his education in 1991 at Saint Francis University in Loretta, PA and he graduated with a Master of Arts in Human Resources Management and Industrial Relations. Sylvester worked in private industry for 27 years as a Human Resource Professional. He worked for such companies as: Dept. of Human Services – City of Chicago, Illinois, Allstate Insurance Company, Saxon Paint and Hardware Stores, Ben Franklin Stores, Federal Express Corporation, Marriott Corporation, Atlantic Coast Airlines and King George Public Schools. He was preceded in death by his father Broadus Roy and mother Inita Johnson-Baylor. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his Stepmother affectionally known as Mom, Gloria Roy of Welcome, Maryland, three stepbrothers; Charles Davis (Violet) of Washington, DC; James Davis (Felicia) of Welcome, Maryland and Clayton Davis of Colonial Beach, VA; two half-sisters: Gloria Bryant and Sherion Henry (Sherwin) of Montross, Virginia; five half-brothers: Alfred Baylor of Montross, VA; Anthony Baylor (Beverly) of Warsaw; VA, Mark Baylor (Dorothy) of Rocky Mount, NC; Craig Baylor (Stephanie) of Stroudsburg, PA; and Gerald Baylor of Ft. Lee, VA, uncle: Lawrence Johnson (Diane) Oak Grove, VA, aunts: Rosie Vaughan, King George, VA, and Nancy Johnson of King George, VA; one Godson, Neil Lyburn of King George, VA, a special friend John Johnson of King George, VA, special friend Chondus Smoot, Lansing, Il, special friend Paul White, Jr., King George, VA; special cousin Althea Knowles of Westchester, Il and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Homegoing Service will be held on Saturday, October 18 at 11AM in the sanctuary of the Little Zion Baptist Church, Oak Grove, Virginia.

Interment will follow in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Montross, Virginia.

Remains may be viewed from 10AM until service time on Saturday, October 18 at Little Zion Baptist Church.
