Thomas Edwin Turner was born June 24, 1935 in Richmond County, Virginia to the late Wilburt Leland Turner and Florence Edna Turner West. He was called home by his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
Thomas was a man of faith and a true servant of God. He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and became a member of New Zion Baptist Church, Warsaw, Virginia, where he was a member of the Dependable Men’s Chorus. As long as his health allowed, he was faithful in his attendance at New Zion and attended services at other churches as well.
Thomas was educated in the public schools of Richmond County. Following school, he worked, until his retirement, as a farmer, first for the Bowen family and then the Carter Brothers.
Thomas married his sweetheart Cora Alice Clark on December 22, 1962. They were married for almost fifty years. To their union was born one daughter, Nina Francis. They also had an adopted daughter, Naomi Elizabeth Clark, that they loved and raised as their own. They also helped raise Earvin Gray and Timothy Brown.
Thomas was a pillar in his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was always present to provide love and encouragement. Thomas loved a good conversation and found it easy to talk with just about anyone. He was a fun-loving man with a quick wit and could keep you smiling and laughing. He loved all sports and enjoyed fishing and playing baseball.
Thomas was preceded in death by his loving wife Cora, his daughter Nina Francis, his father Wilburt Turner, his mother Florence Edna Turner West, his brother George Turner, his sisters Doreatha Turner, Gladys Clark and Jean Carey.
Thomas leaves to cherish his memory his devoted daughter Naomi (Robert), a devoted sister Verline Canada, two other sisters, Geraldine Turner and Joyce Muse, sister-in-law Sedonia Turner, a devoted niece Susie Carey, special friends Melvin Carey and James Robertson, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Thomas Turner will be held on Thursday, August 3 at 11AM in the sanctuary of the Galilee Baptist Church, 20461 Kings Highway, Montross, Virginia.
Interment will follow in the Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery.
Remains may be viewed from 10AM until service time on Thursday, August 3 at Galilee Baptist Church.
