Walter O Taylor, Sr.

Walter Odell Taylor Sr. of Silver Spring, MD, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026.

Born on February 18, 1943, in Sharps, Virginia, he was the son of Russell and Mary Taylor.

A man of unwavering faith, Walter lived a life that demonstrated service, helpfulness, and a deep love for God and his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loyal friend. His guidance, generosity, and strength left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Walter graduated from Richmond County High School in Warsaw, Virginia. On April 9, 2001 he was united in holy matrimony to Geraldine Hall. Their union of 25 years exemplified love, respect, commitment, and constant companionship.

Walter retired from Dahlgren Naval Base in 2005 after 40 years of service. He also worked at Strosniders Hardware in Silver Spring, MD. He spent most of his career as a carpenter, taking great pride in his craftsmanship and believing that every job should be done with excellence. That same attention to detail carried into every part of his life—from keeping his vehicles spotless to maintaining high standards for himself and those he loved. While his expectations were sometimes challenging, his family now smiles as they remember the lessons he taught and the love that was always behind them.

Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time with family, eating good food, watching sports, and relaxing with a good Western. He found joy in life’s simple moments and treasured every opportunity to be with the people he loved most.

Walter is survived by his beloved wife, Gerri Hall; his children: Walter Jr. (Tina), Dale, Willie (Tanya), Tammy, Dean (Ciara), and Joe (Melanie); his 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Allen (the late Edith Taylor), Mortimer (Mamie), Willis (Bernice), Calvin (the late Mary Taylor), Mary (the late Robert Waters), and Helen (the late Bernard Johnson); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his father, Russell Taylor; mother, Mary Taylor; brother, Frank Taylor Sr.; and great-granddaughter, Myel Dozier.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is now home with God. His legacy of faith, love, hard work, and unwavering standards will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know him.
