Walter Wilson, Sr. Obituary

Walter was born on March 22nd,1951, in Sandy Point, VA to the late John and Lena Wilson. He accepted Christ at Zion Church in Kinsale, VA at a very early age. Walter attended Northumberland County Public Schools and graduated from Central High School. He maintained long and close relationships with many of his former classmates.

Walter worked many years for Western Electric,  AT&T,  Bell Atlantic and eventually retired from Verizon  after 36 years of service.  He was a dedicated employee and received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career.

Walter was a very outgoing,  community oriented person and a helpful friend. He was well liked and respected in his community and among his peers.

After retirement Walter loved his job as a driver for the Fredericksburg City Public Schools. He enjoyed his job, colleagues, and the “kids” he transported. He often spoke fondly of them.

Walter played semi professional baseball and it was his passion. He spent over 40 years coaching little league baseball and many of his now adult little leaguers still call him “Coach”.

Walter was a die hard Yankees,  Bullets and Commanders fan. Sports was his life’s passion and he was truly dedicated and remained involved until he could no longer pursue it.

Walter leaves behind his wife of over 35 years Linda, his sons Walter Jr. (Phyllis), John (Mary Beth), Alhaji Tonkara, and beloved grandson, Ronald Gaymon. He also leaves four brothers, Leroy Wilson, who preceded him in death (Betty),  John Wilson Jr. (Brenda), Wade Wilson (Ruth), Luther Wilson (Faustine), and respectfully Aunt Ruth Perkins from LaPlata, MD and Lottie Perkins, Orange, Va.

He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish his memory.
