William “Michael” Plummer Obituary

William Michael Plummer, affectionately known as “Big Mike” was born to the late Dorothy Plummer and William Gordon on November 28, 1956, in Westmorland County, Virginia. He departed this life on January 20, 2025, at his sister Deborah’s home in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

In his later years, Michael decided to give his life to Christ. He joined and was baptized at Potomac Baptist Church in Hague, Virginia, under Pastor Earl Bibbens. He would always say, he followed his friend, and his friend didn’t lead him astray.  He attended church every Sunday as his health allowed.  When he began experiencing difficulty with his health, he didn’t come as often but he always inquired about what was going on.  He stated repeatedly how much he missed coming to hear the Pastor bring the Word.

Michael also enjoyed the children. He made it his mission to bring candy every time he went to church; he was known as the “Candy Man”. He kept the candy hidden in his Bible pouch. He must have been hiding it from the adults because all of the children knew exactly where to go, to get it.  Michael made sure he gave every child that wanted candy, a handful.  If parents said “no”, Michael would always say, “yes, leave that child alone!”  He took great pride in satisfying the children. They would flock to him immediately after church. He had his own following and he absolutely loved it.

Michael was a faithful and beloved member. He loved coming to church as much as he loved his church family, and he claimed his own seat. He sat on the 7th pew every Sunday. He was concerned about everyone. Michael enjoyed a good laugh and often made others laugh, even when he was not feeling his best.  He loved his children and grandchildren. He often spoke of them fondly.  Michael was a humble man. He didn’t require much. He sacrificed to help others.  He would do his best to help his fellow man.

Michael enjoyed drawing and making things with his hands.  He willingly helped make props for Vacation Bible School.  He had an artistic eye.  Many people never knew these things because of his humility.

Big Mike was a warm-hearted and loving person, he loved his community and was a friend to many. On any giving day you could find Michael sitting on the porch surrounded by family and friends playing California, spades or dominos with the guys from the neighborhood.

Michael enjoyed watching tv; his favorite shows were Gunsmoke, Sanford and Son, and Bonanza. He loved doing word puzzles and reading his Bible. He also enjoyed spending time with family watching wrestling and his favorite football team, the Washington Redskins/Commanders. Michael had a Redskins belt buckle that he enjoyed flashing at whomever wasn’t a Redskins fan. Michael is truly a” P-Road” legend. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Conceda Plummer, his granddaughter Ya’Anah Newman-Brown and other beloved aunts, uncles and family.

Michael’s memory will be treasured by his children: Michael Brown, Tavon Brown, Ashley Wilson and Ramon Wilson; seven grandchildren: Ky’Traun Newman, Harmoni Wilson, Isaiah Wilson, Mikayla Brown, Saniah Brown, Talaya Brown and Michael Brown Jr. He is also survived by his siblings: Deborah Smith of Fredericksburg, Va., John Plummer (Antionette) of Maryland, Harold Plummer (Arnetta) of Washington, DC, Sandra Plummer of Fredericksburg, Va., Patricia Plummer of Fredericksburg, Va., Lee Smith of Fredericksburg, Va., Barbara Newton (Charles) of Warsaw, Va. and James Jackson of Maryland; one aunt Mary Plummer of Hague, Va.; one uncle, Reverend Jacob Plummer (Irene) of Oldhams, Va.; two special nieces that he thought of as his own, Kendra Smith and Kanteese Plummer; a very special aunt – Irene, that he thought the world of and loved so much; a very special cousin, Linda Gordon-Shade; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
