Wanda Ashton Obituary

Wanda Y. Ashton departed this life on Saturday, July 23, 2022.

Wanda Yvonne Ashton, daughter of the late Hammie Ashton Sr. and Mazie Rich was born November 3, 1961, in Washington, DC.  On Saturday, July 23, 2022, she was called from labor to reward.

Wanda at an early age received the Lord as her savior.  She was devoted and dedicated to her service to him and was baptized at Siloam Baptist Church in Montross, VA.  Later she attended Clarksville Baptist Church in Warsaw, VA on Christian experience and served there until her demise.

Wanda received her education in the Westmoreland County Public School System and graduated with the “Class of 1979”. She then went on to attend Smithfield Massey Business School with successful completion with the “Class of 1980”.

After graduation she started her career with her first job working for Thalhimers Department Store in Richmond, VA.  She decided that she wanted to advance her career path and started working for the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, VA.  In 1990, Wanda accepted employment with the U.S. Department of the Airforce in Washington, DC, where she was gainfully employed until her failing health.

Wanda was a tough fighter, battling numerous health conditions throughout the years. Despite these conditions she always evangelized by giving her testimony about how good her God has been about every situation.

Her strong will and determination were a blessing to others, and she encouraged them by giving daily inspiration while she was going through her own struggles.  People often wanted to know how Wanda was progressing because they watched her Facebook posts. Wanda’s posts were always positive and uplifting.  Therefore, it would encourage others that were having their own trials and troubles to have faith in the Lord and move forward.  She trusted God to handle every situation.

Wanda’s dedication to her family was immeasurable. There was absolutely nothing that she wouldn’t do for her village.  She enjoyed spending time with family…especially family gatherings where she was often quoted …”the more the merrier!”.  Wanda was the heartbeat ¤ of the family and affectionally was referred to as the “Matriarch, Khanee and Connie”.

Some of Wanda’s favorite phrases were “It is what it is”, “For Real Tho”, I’m going to take you off my prayer list” and “Ahh Shut Up”.  Wanda was a Fashionista.  Her sophistication and style were impeccable.  She loved her heels and enjoyed walking on her imaginary runway.

Even in bad times, she made the best of life.  She loved dancing, performing in Tik-Tok videos with her daughter and granddaughter, watching movies/her favorite television shows such as “Blue Bloods”, “Ru Paul’s Drag Race”, “Swamp People”, “Alaska: The Last Frontier”, “Wicked Tuna” and the cartoon “Bluey”.

The love she had for her LORD and Savior overruled anything that was going wrong or right in her life. She always told you…”Give it to God” if there was something wrong, she would tell you “We gon” pray on that thang!” It was her devotion, perseverance and determination that kept her consistently pushing forward! She was the astonishing and phenomenal women that was loved by many!

She was preceded in death by father Hammie Ashton Sr. and nephew Diamante Kelly.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: mother, Mazie Rich and stepfather, James Rich; daughters: LaVita Ashton (Dorrell), Ikea Ashton-Trimmer (Patrik); fiancé, Albert Roy; bonus daughters: Kristie Davis, Rondria Robinson and Nikia Fisher; grandchildren: Tyler Ashton, Janiya Lee and Grayson Trimmer; great-grandchild, Haiden Ashton; siblings: Jacquelyn Clark (Paul), Hammie Ashton Jr. (Benilda), Gattalene “Missy” Ashton (Sam), Charles Ashton (Michelle), Angela Washington (Kenny), and Sparkle Johnson; god-sister, Alisa Clarke-Shepherd (Elgin); godchild, Krishana Roy; aunts: Clara Kelly, Helen Wood (Carrol), and Gwendolyn Veney (Diamond); devoted nieces; Kayla Washington and Zuri Kelly; dedicated friends: Trina Kelly-Farmer, Demetrice Douglas, Myka Musgrove, Dorenda Wright, Sandra Usual, Pamela Branson-Ashton and Maria Baylor; twelve nieces; nine nephews; five great-nieces; eight great-nephews; four bonus grandchildren; and host of cousins and friends.
